Ground Breaking and Fund Raising Iftar

Assalamu Alaikum dear brothers and sisters,

It is with great elation and the blessings of Allah that we announce that the AlFalah Center will be having their much anticipated Ground Breaking Ceremony on Friday June 23rd at 7:00 pm.

We need to kindly meet at the Days Inn at 6:30 pm, then carpool (with as many riders per car as possible) then drive to the Site for Ground Breaking to minimize # cars.

The site address is 881 Route 202/206, Bridgewater. The ground breaking ceremony will be followed by a Fund Raising Iftar event at the Days Inn located at 1260 US-22, Bridgewater. We hope that the entire community will join us in this monumental moment as we build the first Mosque in Bridgewater NJ. It is important for all of us to come out to show the strength of our community!

Important Update:

Children 10 years of age & younger:

We recognize that a "Fund Raising Iftar" will not be on the top list of "exciting of activities" for young children. In addition, Masha'Allah we had great response to the event and we are near room capacity. Accordingly, we have arranged for the immediately adjacent room to be reserved and we kindly request that children 10 years of age & younger to join there, where they will have adult care supervision, entertainment, Pizza & Cake.

Following is the schedule for the event on Friday June 23rd: 7:00 pm – Ground Breaking Ceremony at 881 Route 202/206 8:00 pm – Community event at Days Inn, 1260 US-22 8:34 pm – Iftar and Maghrib Prayer 9:00 pm – Dinner and Fund Raising 10:30pm – Isha Prayer followed by Tarawih and Khatam-e-Quran Project Status

Alhamdulillah there has been a lot of progress over the past few months:

  • Property Swap-Closing (final step in Settlement logistics) was completed & we now officially own the lot.

  • Finalized various contracts with Builder-Contractor, and other third-party professionals for construction.

  • Obtained all permits needed to start Site Work (next 6+ months worth of construction tasks).

  • Submitted all necessary doc's to get Building Permits (and insha'allah we expect a smooth process).

  • We had an excellent & productive Pre-Construction meeting with Township officials & professionals.

  • Contractor already moved various equipment to the site and started basic clean-up & basic setup.

  • Masjid Address insha'Allah is:

  • 881 Route 202/206 , Bridgewater, NJ 08807

For those who do not know the activities that took place over the past 6 years that lead us to today please see below: After years of searching for a location for the local Muslim community to pray, Al Falah purchased a property in Bridgewater, NJ, that met its requirements. The site of the former Redwood Inn had the space to become a mosque and community center and was located in an area that was zoned to allow such a facility. But following an anti-Muslim internet campaign, hundreds of people showed up to protest the mosque project at a Planning Board meeting to consider the proposal. In response, the town of Bridgewater illegally rushed through a change to its zoning rules that effectively blocked the mosque. The Township cited supposed traffic concerns, but the Township’s own documents and actions show that these concerns were not legitimate and were not the real reason for the zoning changes.

The suit, filed on April 26, 2011, alleged that in changing the law to exclude the mosque, Bridgewater violated the Al Falah Center’s federal constitutional rights under the First Amendment and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, as well as the corresponding protections of New Jersey’s Constitution. A number of federal and state statutory claims are also alleged in the complaint, including multiple violations of the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000 (RLUIPA). In June 2011, the Court denied Bridgewater’s motion to dismiss the suit. And on September 30, 2013, Judge Shipp issued a decisive ruling for Al Falah enjoining the town from applying the new discriminatory law to its mosque application. In doing so, Judge Shipp found that Al Falah had not only demonstrated irreparable injury to the Muslim community that had been deprived of a house of worship for years, but had also demonstrated that it was likely to succeed on the merits of at least its statutory claim. Following this ruling, the parties engaged in extensive settlement negotiations that have now resulted in an agreement designed to allow the Al Falah Center to build its house of worship in Bridgewater. Under the terms of the settlement, the Township has agreed to exchange a 10.75 acre piece of land on Route 202/206 in Bridgewater for the Redwood Inn property. The exchange occurred after the Al Falah Center obtained all approvals necessary to construct a mosque on the new property. Wassalamu Alikum Wa-Rahmatullahi, Wa-Barakatuh,
